The vial contains only the peptide as a dry powder. It does not come mixed with water or any other solvent. A BPC-157 10mg vial contains twice the peptide of the 5mg vial, which suits researchers who need more material from the same batch. The label states the batch number, which links to the certificate for that batch. Like all BPC157 we sell, the vials are labelled for research use only.
What Is BPC 157 and Where Does It Come From?
What is BPC 157? It is a synthetic peptide made of 15 amino acids. The name stands for “Body Protection Compound 157” (searched as BPC 157 body protection compound 157). It was developed in the early 1990s by a research group at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, led by Predrag Sikirić, which still publishes most of the studies on it.
What is BPC 157 made from? The sequence was taken from part of a larger protein that the group isolated from human gastric juice. The peptide sold for research is not extracted from anything: it is made by solid-phase peptide synthesis, building the chain one amino acid at a time, then purified by HPLC and freeze-dried. In early development papers it also appears under the codes PL 14736 and PL-10 [VERIFY].
So, BPC 157, what is it in one line? A short, synthetic, gastric-derived peptide that is studied in laboratory and animal research and is not approved as a medicine anywhere we are aware of [VERIFY].
Amino Acid Sequence, Molecular Weight and Chemical Structure
BPC-157 is a pentadecapeptide, meaning a 157 peptide chain of 15 amino acids:
Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val (one-letter code: GEPPPGKPADDAGLV)
- Molecular formula: C62H98N16O22
- Molecular weight: about 1,419.5 g/mol
- Structure: a linear chain with a free amino end and a free carboxyl end. It has no cysteine, so no disulfide bridges, and no other modifications.
- Notable features: four proline residues, including a Pro-Pro-Pro run near the start. Proline-rich stretches are harder for many digestive enzymes to cut, which is one of the explanations given for its reported stability. It also carries three acidic residues (Glu, Asp, Asp) and one basic residue (Lys), so it has a net negative charge at neutral pH.
Acetate and arginate salt forms. Most BPC-157 peptides are supplied as an acetate salt, because acetate is the counter-ion left after standard HPLC purification. BPC 157 arginate is the same 15-amino-acid peptide paired with arginine as the counter-ion instead. Suppliers describe BPC-157 arginate as more stable, but we have not found published head-to-head studies comparing the two forms, so treat that as a supplier claim. The salt form matters in the lab because it changes the net peptide content of the powder: a BPC 157 arginate salt vial and an acetate vial with the same label weight contain different amounts of the peptide itself. This vial is supplied as [acetate / arginate: CONFIRM].
How Is BPC 157 Studied in Laboratory Research?
Most published work on BPC-157 comes from cell studies and animal models, mainly in rats. When people ask what is BPC 157 used for in research, the answer falls into three main areas: the digestive tract, blood vessel formation, and tissue repair models. The BPC 157 effects described below are findings from those studies. They are not evidence of any effect in people.
Digestive Tract and Gastric Stability Research
Because the peptide came from gastric juice, its first research use was in models of stomach and gut damage. The developing group has published many rat studies of gastric and intestinal lesions, summarised in a 2011 review (Sikirić et al., Curr Pharm Des).
The same group reports that BPC-157 stays intact in human gastric juice for more than 24 hours, which is unusual: most peptides are broken down quickly by stomach acid and pepsin. This is where the description “stable gastric pentadecapeptide” comes from. It is a reported laboratory finding, mostly from one research group, and has not been widely confirmed by independent labs [VERIFY wording against Sikirić 2011].
Stability in gastric juice is different from stability in blood. In a 2022 pharmacokinetic study in rats and dogs, injected BPC-157 was broken down rapidly into small peptide fragments and then single amino acids, and its BPC 157 half life in plasma was under 30 minutes in both species (He et al., Front Pharmacol, 2022).
Blood Vessel and Angiogenesis Research
A second line of research asks what does BPC-157 do to blood vessels. In a 2017 study, BPC-157 increased the expression and activation of VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR2) in cultured endothelial cells, switched on the VEGFR2–Akt–eNOS signalling pathway, and increased new vessel formation in a rat hind-limb model with reduced blood flow (Hsieh et al., J Mol Med, 2017). Earlier rat studies looked at how BPC-157 interacts with the nitric oxide (NO) system, using drugs that block or boost NO production (Sikirić et al., Eur J Pharmacol, 1997).
These BPC157 effects on angiogenesis (new blood vessel growth) are one of the most cited reasons the peptide is studied, and one reason it is often compared with standard growth factors (Seiwerth et al., 2018).
Tissue Repair and Growth Factor Research
The third area is tendon, ligament, muscle and bone models in animals and cells. In rat tendon fibroblasts, BPC-157 increased cell outgrowth, survival and migration and activated the FAK–paxillin pathway (Chang et al., J Appl Physiol, 2011). A follow-up study found it increased growth hormone receptor expression in the same cells (Chang et al., Molecules, 2014).
So BPC 157, what does it do in these models? In short, the published work links it to cell migration, blood vessel growth and growth-factor signalling. A 2025 systematic review counted 35 preclinical studies in this area and noted that most come from a small number of research groups (Vasireddi et al., HSS J, 2025).
What Does Current Evidence Say About Human Studies?
There are no completed, robust BPC 157 human trials. The human evidence is very limited:
- The 2025 systematic review (Vasireddi et al.) found 36 studies on BPC-157 in orthopaedics and sports medicine. Only one involved people: a retrospective look-back at 12 patients with knee pain (Lee & Padgett, 2021), with no control group. The review found no human safety data.
- A small uncontrolled pilot report in bladder pain (interstitial cystitis) was published in 2024 [VERIFY].
- A phase I safety and pharmacokinetics study was registered in 2015 (NCT02637284). Its status is listed as unknown and no results have been posted [VERIFY].
- Of the BPC-157 clinical trials registered more recently, a randomised, placebo-controlled pilot after rotator cuff surgery (NCT07803250, University of Arkansas) is listed as not yet recruiting, with a planned start in 2027 [VERIFY on ClinicalTrials.gov].
Animal results often do not carry over to people, so none of the findings above should be read as evidence of safety or effect in humans.
BPC 157 vs TB 500: What Is the Difference?
BPC 157 and TB-500 are often mentioned together, but they are unrelated molecules with different origins and research histories.
| BPC-157 | TB-500 | |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Partial sequence of a protein from human gastric juice | Synthetic thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4), a protein in most cells, or a short fragment of it |
| Length | 15 amino acids | 43 amino acids (full Tβ4) or 7 (Ac-LKKTETQ fragment), depending on supplier |
| Molecular weight | about 1,419.5 g/mol | about 4,963 g/mol (full) or 889 g/mol (fragment) [VERIFY] |
| Main research focus | Gut models, blood vessel growth, NO signalling, tendon cells | Actin binding, cell migration |
| WADA status | Prohibited, S0 (non-approved substances) | Prohibited, S2 (as a Tβ4 derivative) |
Researchers sometimes study the two together to see whether different pathways give a different result from either peptide alone. For that, see our [LINK: BPC-157 + TB-500 Wolverine nasal spray] and [LINK: Wolverine stack pen], or the standalone [LINK: TB-500 vial] [CONFIRM if sold].
Certificate of Analysis and Purity Testing for Each Batch
Every batch of our BPC-157 peptide comes with a certificate of analysis (COA) from [CONFIRM: lab name] [independent third-party lab: CONFIRM]. The COA shows two separate tests: HPLC, which measures purity, and mass spectrometry, which confirms the molecule is BPC-157. Both are needed. A high purity figure on its own does not prove the main peak is the right peptide, and a correct mass on its own does not show how much of the sample is impurity.
How to Find and Download the Certificate for Your Batch
- Find the batch number on your vial label [and on the packing slip: CONFIRM].
- Go to [LINK: COA library page], or use the COA link in the product images on this page.
- Choose the certificate whose batch number matches your vial and download the PDF.
- If you cannot find your batch, contact us at [CONFIRM: email] and we will send it.
A batch-matched COA is the simplest way to tell legitimate BPC 157 from an untested product: a certificate that does not match your batch number tells you nothing about what is in your vial.
How to Read HPLC Purity and Mass Spectrometry Results
- HPLC purity: the HPLC trace shows one main peak for BPC-157 and smaller peaks for impurities, such as shortened sequences. Purity is the main peak’s area as a percentage of all peaks. This batch: [CONFIRM: __%].
- Mass spectrometry: the measured mass should match BPC-157’s theoretical mass of about 1,419.5. Depending on the method, the result may be shown as charged ions: about 1,420.5 for [M+H]+ or about 710.8 for [M+2H]2+. A clear match confirms identity.
- Net peptide content (if shown): the share of the powder that is peptide, as opposed to counter-ions (acetate or arginate) and residual water. It is usually below 100% even when purity is high.
- Check the details: the product name, batch number, test date and lab name should all be on the certificate.
How to Store and Handle a Lyophilised Peptide Vial
Freeze-dried BPC-157 is much more stable as a dry powder than in solution. For long-term storage, keep the sealed vial at −20 °C, away from light and moisture. For short periods, 2–8 °C in a fridge is generally suitable for lyophilised peptides [CONFIRM in-house guidance]. Before opening a cold vial, let it reach room temperature so moisture from the air does not condense on the powder. Handle with gloves, using sterile technique, in a lab setting.
Storage Before and After Reconstitution
- Before reconstitution: sealed vial at −20 °C long term, or 2–8 °C short term. Unopened shelf life: [__ months: CONFIRM].
- Reconstitution: in research protocols, the powder is usually dissolved in sterile bacteriostatic water [LINK: bac water], added slowly down the side of the vial and swirled gently rather than shaken.
- After reconstitution: store reconstituted BPC 157 at 2–8 °C, protected from light, and use within [__ days/weeks: CONFIRM from your stability data]. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing; if longer storage is needed, split the solution into single-use aliquots and freeze them.
- Discard any solution that turns cloudy, changes colour or contains particles.
Is Research Use of This Peptide Legal in the UK, and Is It Banned in Sport?
[LEGAL REVIEW: this section]
- Not a licensed medicine. BPC-157 has no marketing authorisation from the MHRA, so it cannot legally be sold or supplied in the UK as a medicine for human use. Genesis Peptides sells BPC 157 in the UK only as a research chemical for laboratory use.
- Not a controlled drug. BPC-157 is not listed under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 [VERIFY].
- Not approved in the US either. Its BPC-157 FDA approval status is unapproved: there is no BPC 157 FDA approval for any use, and in 2023 the FDA placed it in a category of bulk substances that compounding pharmacies should not use because of possible safety risks [VERIFY].
- Banned in sport. BPC-157 is on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List under S0, non-approved substances, and has been named on the list since 2022. It is prohibited at all times, in and out of competition. UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) applies the same list, so athletes and support staff subject to anti-doping rules should not handle it.
We will not sell to anyone who says they intend to use the product on a person or an animal.
What to Check Before Buying Research Peptides in the UK
If you plan to buy BPC-157, the best BPC 157 is the one whose quality you can check, not the cheapest. Before you order BPC 157 for sale from any supplier, check:
- A batch-matched COA with both HPLC purity and mass spectrometry identity, from a named lab.
- The salt form and net peptide content, so you know how much actual peptide is in the vial (acetate vs arginate).
- Clear research-use labelling and no dosing, injection or health claims. A supplier that gives human dosing advice is selling outside the rules.
- A UK address and contact details, and dispatch from the UK.
- Correct storage in transit: lyophilised powder in a sealed vial.
When comparing where to buy, BPC-157 peptide where to buy searches often lead to marketplaces and resellers that cannot show a batch certificate. BPC 157 peptides where to buy should start with the questions above. To buy BPC 157 peptide from Genesis, choose your vial size at the top of this page.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers on batch testing, delivery and ordering. Can’t find what you need? Our team is happy to help.
Contact UsWhat is inside a BPC 157 vial?
Only lyophilised BPC-157 powder: [CONFIRM: 5mg or 10mg] of the peptide as its [CONFIRM: acetate / arginate] salt, with no water, solvent or other active ingredients. A BPC 157 10 mg vial holds twice as much peptide as the 5mg vial. The exact purity and net peptide content are on the batch COA.
Are there any human studies on BPC 157?
Very few, and none that are large or controlled. A 2025 systematic review found one small retrospective human case series among 36 studies; the rest were in animals or cells. A phase I trial registered in 2015 has no published results, and a new controlled trial is not yet recruiting. There are no completed robust BPC 157 human trials.
Why is it described as stable in stomach acid?
Because the group that developed it reports that it stays intact in human gastric juice for more than 24 hours, where most peptides break down quickly. Its proline-rich sequence is one suggested reason. This is a laboratory finding mainly from that one group. It does not mean the peptide is stable in blood, where animal studies show it is broken down within minutes.
Is BPC 157 legal to buy in the UK?
Buying BPC 157 UK stock as a research chemical for laboratory use is lawful [LEGAL REVIEW]. It is not a licensed medicine and must not be sold or used as one. It is banned in sport under WADA’s S0 category.
Is this product third party tested?
Yes. Every batch of this BPC-157 peptide for sale is tested by [CONFIRM: lab name] [CONFIRM independent] for HPLC purity and mass spectrometry identity, and the batch certificate is available to download.
How long can it be stored once reconstituted?
Keep reconstituted BPC 157 at 2–8 °C, away from light, and use it within [__ days/weeks: CONFIRM]. For longer storage, freeze single-use aliquots and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Unopened lyophilised vials last much longer at −20 °C. All products are for laboratory research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
